Anne Frank is probably the most well-known victim of the Holocaust with millions of people around the world aware of her life in hiding through her diary. Not as well-known is the story of her early life, from her birth in Frankfurt, through her family’s migration to Amsterdam, to the Nazi invasion of the Netherlands, and the time after her arrest, including the fates of the people she hid with. This program will fill in those pieces and tell the story of the diary within the context of the war and the Holocaust.

About the Presenter:

John Damond is a reference librarian and department manager at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. His interest in Anne Frank began in 1992, when he visited Amsterdam and the Anne Frank House. This interest turned into an obsession as he continued to ask, read, and learn more about Anne Frank’s story and the Holocaust. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Gratz College near Philadelphia.
